Shelter allowance

If yours is a low-income family with one or more dependent children, and you spend a significant portion of your income on rent, you may obtain financial assistance under the shelter allowance program. Certain conditions apply.

The following factors determine the amount of assistance:

• the number of people in your household;


• your total household income;


• your monthly rent.

To obtain the shelter allowance
Both you and your spouse (if applicable) must have filed Québec income tax returns. You must also meet the eligibility requirements.

To apply for the shelter allowance program, contact an office of Revenu Québec to request an application form. Please note that the form is not available on the Internet.
