Paternity leave

Responsibility : Commission des normes du travail

You are entitled to five consecutive weeks of paternity leave without pay on the birth of your child.

You cannot transfer the five weeks to the mother or split them between you.

You may take your paternity leave at any time. However, it cannot be taken before the week of the birth and must be completed within 52 weeks after the birth.

At least three weeks before your leave is to begin, you must give your employer written notice, indicating the start date for your leave and the expected date of your return to work.
